The opening event for this year’s Classic was held in perfect weather at Yarram, where 122 keen golfers contested the 4BBB event. Scores reflected the great course conditions, with close results in the 3 grades, including a countback winner in the men’s grade. Good golf was also required to pick up an NTP voucher, with a couple of shots under 60cm. The Yarram Golf Club team put in a wonderful effort to ensure all players really enjoyed the day, including the bbq boys who had food available for hungry golfers throughout the day. Congratulations to our winners all others who collected prizes (see Results page on the Classic website; Facebook page); good golfing for the rest of the tournament!Korrumburra, Mixed Ambrose
A 4 Ball Mixed Ambrose awaited for 120 golfers at Korumburra Golf Course which was presented in great condition by the Korumburra Golf Club. The early scores did not give any indication of the great scores which were to come in later in the day. The winning team for the scratch event had an amazing round of 55, with the runner up having a very solid round of 61. Handicap winners had a round of net 51.90 with the runners up having a net 53.25 ahead of a large number of teams breathing down their necks.Woorayl, Irish Fourball
The Woorayl Golf Club hosted an Irish 4 Ball Teams Event which attracted a field of 68 players. The competition was played on a perfect day with very close scoring the victorious team winning on a countback. The winning team achieved a gross stableford score of 89; the same as the unfortunate team which lost on a countback, the 2nd runner up one stroke back on 88. Congratulations to the Woorayl Golf Club on their presentation of the event and their generous hospitality.Meeniyan, Individual Stableford
The changeable weather conditions and a couple of rain showers didn't do anything to dampen the enthusiasm of the 66-strong field at picturesque Meeniyan on Tuesday. Single stableford was the daily competition and some very even results were carded in all 3 grades. However, it was interesting to see that none of the winners or placegetters featured in the NTP wins, which meant more players went home with a prize, which was great! The Meeniyan team happily provided food and drinks for everybody and the course was in great condition.Welshpool, 2-Person Ambrose (Men's, Ladies', Mixed)
"Hole-in-One Lights Up Classic at Welshpool" A very excited Pam Davies from Axedale GC is $1,000 richer (courtesy of the South Gippsland Golf Classic) after scoring her first ever Hole-in-One with a great shot at the 157 metre par 3, 8th hole at Welshpool on Wednesday. The 60-odd strong field took on the challenge of the 2 person Ambrose Medley competition in great spirits, with the volunteer-prepared course in excellent condition. Most of the players handled the at-times blustery wind pretty well, with some excellent scores recorded, including some very close NTP shots. The team of Dan Macey and Leroy Sharrock had a day out; not only winning the mens' grade by a comfortable margin, but also picked up 4 NTP vouchers between them!
